"Final Destination" (Chinese: 《死神来了》, translated in Singapore and Taiwan as "绝命终结站") is a supernatural thriller film released in 2000, directed by Chinese-American director James Wong. As the first film in the Final Destination series, the screenplay was co-written by James Wong, Glen Morgan, and Jeffrey Reddick, and stars actors such as Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr Smith, and Seann William Scott. The story revolves around a high school student who has a premonition that a plane about to take off will explode in mid-air. His foresight leads a group of people to disembark, but shortly after, the plane indeed explodes. The Grim Reaper, who orchestrated everything, begins to take away the survivors who escaped the plane's disastrous fate one by one.
The screenplay was originally written by Jeffrey Reddick as a spec script for the well-known American television series "The X-Files." It was later adapted by one of the X-Files writers, James Wong, and Glen Morgan, and ultimately released as a feature film. The movie was distributed by New Line Cinema and filmed in locations including New York City, Vancouver, Toronto, and San Francisco, with some scenes shot in Nassau County. The film premiered in the United States on March 17, 2000, and achieved an impressive box office gross of over $112 million, exceeding its budget. The DVD version was released on September 26, 2000, featuring film commentary, deleted scenes, and a documentary.
